1. General

All hobby, leisure, amateur, and professional athletes are eligible to participate in the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010. By registering for this event all participants declare that they accept the terms and conditions.

2. Minimum age

Participants of the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010 have to be at least 18 years of age (Deadline June 27, 2010).

3. Health

All participants are obliged to make sure that they meet with the fitness requirements of the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010. If necessary, participants have to consult a physician and, on the organizer's request, provide proof of their state of health.

4. Material

Only racing bicycles are allowed to participate in the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010. The following equipment is strictly not permissible: - Triathlon, Bull Horns, or Delta handlebars
- Any kind of handlebar attachment
- Recumbent bicycles, unicycles and any kind of hand bike
- Saddle bags and cycle trailers of any kind
- Bottle cages behind or under the saddle
- Drinking bottles made from non-deformable materials such as glass, aluminum, etc.

All participants are obliged to make sure their bicycles are operating properly, especially with regard to brakes and other parts relevant to safety. In case of technical shortcomings a participant may be disqualified from the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010.

There is a prize money at the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp in all categories. The prize money is for the first three teams of the overall ranking of each category. If the team doesn't pick up their prize money, the money goes to a social service.

5. Team ranking

Participants of the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010 start in 2-person teams. The team will only be officially considered for ranking if both participants pass the start and finish line. For the team classification of the respective category, only the time of the second fastest team member is relevant. If a team (one or both partners) should fail to pass a control point, they will continue the race outside of the official ranking and not be recorded as finishers. Only those participants that officially finish all stages of the race can be recorded as finishers.

There are 5 different team categories:

  1. Men
  2. Women
  3. Mixed
  4. Masters (Men; prerequisite for consideration in that category is a cumulative age of both team members that exceeds 80 years, whereas the age of each team member (in full years) is determined on June 27, 2010)
  5. Grand Masters (Men; prerequisite for consideration in that category is a cumulative age of both team members that exceeds 100 years, whereas the age of each team member (in full years) is determined on June 27, 2010)

Only full years on the July 6 deadline will be relevant. That means that it doesn't make a difference whether a cyclist is 40 years old or 40 years, 11 months and 29 days. In both cases only the full 40 years of age will be relevant.

6. Start Numbers and Participant-ID

All participants have to attach their start numbers (partners of the same team have identical numbers) to their bicycles (handlebar) and jersey (on the back) in such a way that they are clearly visible at all times of the race. Advertisements on the start numbers must not be hidden. Leaders in the overall standings must wear their leader shirts.

All participants have to carry their Participant-ID with them at all times of the race and keep the transponders properly attached to their bicycles or bodies, otherwise, an individual time keeping will not be possible. The participant is personally liable for lost transponders.

7. Race Bike Check

Prior to the start of all stages random bike checks will be performed. Bikes with technical shortcomings may be disqualified from the start. The bike check will be done on the event site and prior to the start.

8. Start

Starting positions will be assumed 45 minutes before the official starting time. The daily briefing for all starters takes place 15 minutes before the official starting time.

The start is open every day for 10 minutes after the official starting time. Teams starting within this period of 10 minutes, however, will be recorded as if they had started at the official starting time. Teams starting after this period of 10 minutes will not be recorded.

On the first stage of the race, starting positions have to be assumed according to start numbers. On all subsequent stages, teams assume starting positions in 4 starting blocks according to the overall standings.

The first starting block has its fixed start time, meaning that all athletes in this block start at the same time. The other starting blocks have a net start time.

9. Registering control

Registration control prior to the start of each stage is mandatory for all participants.

10. Neutralized start

A neutralized start will generally be announced at the briefing by the race organization.

In a neutralized start, which is indicated by a red light or a red flag on the top of the Race Control Vehicle, no participant is allowed to overtake the Race Control Vehicle. As soon as the race is cleared, the race director will put a green light or a green flag on top of his vehicle. The Race Control Vehicle will try to stay in front of the leading riders. Should this be impossible due to certain traffic situations, the leaders may overtake the Race Control Vehicle as long as it indicates a cleared race by green lights/flag. They will then be guided by a motorcycle leading the way.

11. Control points

On each stage there will be a control point, the location of which is unknown to the participants. Both partners of a team have to pass this control point. Teams that fail to pass a control point (for instance due to getting off the route), but finish the race later on, receive a time penalty of 60 minutes. The jury reserves the right to impose higher or lower time penalties in special cases.

12. Finish

At the finish line of each stage participants have to pass detector pads in the ground. The team partners are not bound by regulations to pass the finish line together, however, only the time of the second partner to reach the finish will be recorded. Teams that, due to exhaustion, defective equipments or injury, arrive after the above mentioned finish time, but have managed to finish the stage cycling and having covered the whole course of the stage on their bicycles, will be recorded with the maximum stage time (start till finish time) plus 60 minutes, and will be allowed to start again the next day. Teams that, due to a major defect in equipment or injury (proof necessary), evidently arrive at the finish not riding their bicycles, but by other modes of transportation, will be recorded with the maximum stage time (start till finish time) plus 120 minutes. They will be allowed to start again the next day. Should one team partner drop out of the race due to exhaustion, defective equipment, or injury, we will try to integrate the other partner into a newly created team. This, however, cannot be guaranteed. New teams will not be included in the official ranking, but cycle as unofficial competitors. However, they will retain their scores and finisher shirts as long as both participants finish all stages.

13. Dropping out of the race

Teams or individual participants that decide to drop out of the race for whatever reasons have to unregister with the organizer immediately either on location (Race Office or control points) or by calling the emergency phone number given on the participant-ID. For teams or participants that do not unregister with the Race Office or control points, or by telephone, the organizer will send out a search party at the expense of the participant(s). Participants who would like to end the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010 prematurely also have to unregister with the Race Office of the respective stage, return the transponder, and, if necessary, cancel already booked hotel rooms. Everybody is responsible for their own return transportation. The local tourism office will be glad to be of assistance.

14. Sweep car / Minimum speed

Behind the last cyclist there will be a safety car and a sweep car. The sweep car will pick up a limited number of participants that can't continue the race due to exhaustion, defective equipment, or injury, and transport them to the finish If the sweep car becomes overcrowded the crew will try to organize other modes of transportation. The sweep car will stay behind the last cyclist of the field until the finish. Participants are obliged to comply with the instructions of the sweep car personnel at all times.

If we are able to see that participants are not able to finish the stage in the assumed time (the minimum speed differs from stage to stage it depends due to the stage lenght and altitude profile), we, the organizers, retain to take the participants out of the race.

The organizer does not assume liability for any damages to the racing bikes or other equipment transported.

15. Return of the transponder

All participants are to return the issued transponder in the last stage's finish area. The handing over will be confirmed in writing by a Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp staff member. All participants who fail to return the transponder by July 31, 2010, will be charged a fee of €75. So please keep your confirmation slip at least until the end of August.

16. Catering and drinks

Participants are responsible for their own catering and drinks. The organizer will hand out fruits, energy bars, and sports drinks at the control points as long as stocks last. Sign posts, put up on both sides of the course at distances of 100m and 250m, will give early notice of catering zones. In order to take advantage of the catering participants must give clearly visible hand signals, get into the right lane before eventually coming to a halt. The organizer, however, does not guarantee catering and drinks. Each participant agrees not to leave behind any litter or impair the environment in any way.

17. Bad weather gear

All participants have to carry rainwear and warm clothing. The organizer will spot check this prior to the start.

18. Technical Service

The sponsors and service partners offer technical services for bicycles before, during, and after the race. Service vehicles in the field will be equipped with mechanics, tools, as well as spare parts in limited amounts and numbers (wearing parts, tubes, etc.). They will not have complete replacement wheels ready. Participants wanting to take advantage of the technical service have to clearly indicate this by hand signal, come to a halt on the right side of the road, and wait for a service car. Tuning and maintenance is free of charge. Other types of care will not be given. Spare parts will have to be paid for at usual market prices, if necessary, after the stage.

19. Important rules

The Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp takes place on public roads that are not closed for traffic.

  1. Participants have to abide by the traffic regulations of the respective countries. All participants have to cycle on the right side of the road for the entire marathon. It is not allowed to cut corners. Instructions of the police, race manager, marshals, and Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp personnel are to be followed at all times.
  2. During the race it is compulsory to wear a helmet at all times. The helmet has to be in compliance with the universally accepted DIN Norms.
  3. Except for the catering zones, it is not allowed to drop things such as packaging material, bottles, or drinking cups.
  4. Vehicles accompanying teams or individual cyclists during the race are not allowed throughout the entire event. Accompanying vehicles are only allowed outside the racing course and they may not impair the race in any way. Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp marshals will check that from their motorcycles
  5. Both partners of a team may assist each other within the framework of the traffic regulations. However, mechanical connections between the two bicycles (towing ropes or similar) are not permitted.
  6. Slower cyclists have to give way to overtaking cyclists immediately.
  7. Participants have to ride carefully, especially in difficult-to-see sections of the course, be prepared to brake in downhill sections, and expect oncoming traffic.
  8. It is not permitted to pass closed train crossings at red traffic lights. There will be no time credit given for participants delayed by closed train crossings.
  9. Defective equipment must be repaired at the side of the track.
  10. In the finish spurt it is not permitted to change lanes.
  11. The organizer reserves the right to cancel or call off the race or certain stages at any time. Reasons for this can be, among other things, force majeure (e.g. bad weather) and extraordinary/unforeseeable situations. In these instances, participants do not have a claim to a refund of the entry fee in part or full or any other damages.

20. Marshals, time penalties, disqualification

Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp Marshals on motorcycles will guard the above rules throughout the entire event. The marshals will impose clear cautions for not obeying the rules and report the respective case to the jury. The jury reserves the right to disqualify teams or individual participants or impose penalties for:

  • Noncompliance with traffic regulations
  • Littering
  • Noncompliance with the rules
  • Gross unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Technical shortcomings of the equipment
  • Health problems of a participant
  • Doping

21. Finisher

Only those participants who finish the stage according to the regulations will be recorded as finishers. Whoever fails to finish a stage may remain in the overall ranking, but will not be a finisher. Participants who do not meet the criteria above can still be recorded as finishers if the following exceptions apply:

  • Participant did not start a stage (due to injury, defective equipment, stolen bicycle, etc.)
  • Participant fails to finish a stage due to injury, defective equipment, etc.
  • Participant finishes a stage after the official finishing time (due to injury, defective equipment, etc.)

22. Doping

Athletes who are under a doping ban or who are under a running doping investigation are not allowed to start at the Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2010. The organizer reserves the right to carry out doping controls. Everyone guilty of doping will be disqualified without exception.

23. Help from the outside

Both partners of a team may assist each other within the framework of the traffic regulations, however, they may not accept help from the outside, such as pushing, towing, and riding in the slipstream of a motorized vehicle. Exceptions of this rule are the passing of food, drinks, clothing items, or spare parts by a companion standing on the side of the road, or medical assistance by the TOUR-Transalp Medical Service.

24. Appeals and the Jury

All participants have the right to protest against offences of other teams or decisions of the Racing Committee at the Race Office within one hour after the finish. A three-member jury (Head of he Racing Control Committee, Head of the Race Organization, Head of the Timekeeping Department) will deal with the protest immediately and make a decision prior to the bestowal of the awards. The protest fee is €50. The protest fee will be kept by the organizer in case of a lost protest.

25. Liability

All participants are responsible for their own safety. Under no circumstances shall the organizers, hosts, or sponsors be liable for any direct or indirect damages, including, but not limited to, personal damages or damages to property. Participants have to give their express consent that they assume all risks arising out of or in any way connected with taking part in this event and will not make any claims against persons, institutions, or companies that carry out or have carried out this event.

26. Penalties and other sanctions

All punishable offences will be decided via the jury. The jury is at any time entitled to impose also punishments for offenses that are not included within this catalogue. The measure of punishment is then specified by the jury.

The duration of the punishment is specified depending upon each case by the jury. As an innovation, and in order to uphold compliance with the rules and regulations, all participants that were awarded a penalty will be cycling the next stage "on probation." This will be indicated by a red sticker on the starting number. Should this participant receive a new penalty, he or she will be disqualified from the race.
